Stream of Consciousness Saturday: Nuts, November 2, 2019

On October 29, I took dozens of photographs of the squirrels in my backyard. At least half of them look like the ones above. Squirrels love to eat nuts and seeds. I’ve taken to leaving them a handful of peanuts, raw or roasted, unsalted and still in the shell, a few times a day. I also leave sunflower seeds so that the birds can join in the fun. I’ve noticed blue jays eating the peanuts. Good for them. As the squirrels don’t mind helping themselves to the bird seed, turn about is fair play!

  1. Lovely pics! You’ve evoked a childhood memory for me. My sister used to have one as a pet from the time it was a baby. It would nuzzle into her neck until one day it decided to explore the big, wide world. She was bereft!

    1. What a poignant story- a bit like your own personal experience of the Born Free story. Are you familiar with it? From early childhood, I’ve been fascinated by nature and all life. I even majored in biology when I was in college! Ha! Was I surprised when I had to learn stuff like chemistry and physics! Ouch!

      1. First semester physics was a breeze for me, so I went into second semester very cocky and self-assured. The first exam was on thermodynamics, fairly dense stuff, and I aced it. After that, a string of F’s when we started on electricity. I found it very difficult indeed to wrap my mind around capacitors, definition of voltage, etc. It blew my mind! Twice! I barely got out of it alive. LOL
