“Sometimes, in warfare, a tactical retreat is called for,” said King GarGar to his officers. They were gathered in his tent. In the center was a table and on the table was a map. Wooden chess pieces representing various concentrations of troops were arranged on the map. As he spoke, the King’s hands gestured over the map in the direction of the retreat.
“I must protest, Your Majesty.” Spoke up one of the younger officers. “We’ve paid dearly for our gains in this war. How can we give them up so casually?”
“Not to worry,”replied King GarGar with a smile. “The retreat is but a feint. There are reserves on the other side of the river. Once the enemy fords that river in pursuit of us, they will march right into a trap.”
