Ragtag Daily Prompt: Backbone

Queen Pirouette and her husband King GarGar had been out riding all morning when they stumbled across a wild boar. The King motioned to his nearest retainer to hand him a spear which was speedily done. The King then dismounted with a quick leap and charged the boar, thrusting the spear into its neck. The boar bellowed in pain, turned toward His Majesty, thereby snapping the wooden spear in two.

Queen Pirouette screamed in horror as the boar pinned His Majesty under its front hooves and began to slash at him with its razor sharp tusks. Brandishing a long dagger, Her Majesty leapt from her mount and rushed at the pair without a thought of her own safety. In a split second, she plunged the dagger upward into the boar’s heart, killing it easily.

“Get this beast off of my husband!” She shouted at the others.

Struggling underneath the dead animal, King GarGar began to sing.

Them bones, them bones, them dry bones!
The hip bone’s connected to the backbone.
The backbone’s connected to the neck bone.
Them bones, them bones, them dry bones.
Doin’ the skeleton dance.
