Ragtag Daily Prompt: Break

Princess Pirouette stood at GarGar’s bedside, looking down on him. What she saw was enough to break her heart. There lay her fiancé who was but a pale, shrunken shadow of his former self. Where was the virile youth of yesterday? Although it had been but a few days since le comte took ill, to Pirouette it seemed like an eternity. “Surely he’ll recover!” She thought aloud.

When the priest arrived, GarGar at first reacted violently, coughing and kicking off his bed covers. As soon at the prelate blessed him and placed a consecrated wafer in his mouth, GarGar seemed to calm, resting his head on his pillow and breathing evenly. Pirouette dutifully knelt during the ceremony and afterwards, thanked the father profusely. “God bless you, my child,” he said to her, making the sign of the cross.

“Please save all your blessing for Monsieur le comte,” replied Pirouette through watery eyes.

    1. Thanks, Mason. We’re actually going through a bad time with the real GarGar. He’s gotten out of the house and refuses to come back inside. It’s been four days now and I’m beginning to lose hope.

      1. Aww, I’m so sorry to hear that. Can you go to the local animal sanctuary and get a trap cage. They’ll let you borrow one for free I’d bet.
Put his favourite inside. He goes in triggers it and then you can bring him in.

      2. I wish I could be there to help you.

As I say try cheese, a little of his food, favourite treats. Even a little cooked chicken or a can of sardines. If he’s hungry those smells might get him. I hope it does soon anyway.

      3. Thanks, Mason. Right now the trap is baited with a fresh can of cat food AND catnip. I’ve managed to trap two of my other cats who always come in when they are called. (That’s why they have outdoor privileges.) So at least I know the trap works. I’m trying to hold on to hope but it has been close to a week now. He must be living on the little birds and mice in our yard. If so, I may never see him again. I am very sad about it.

      4. Thats such a shame. Are you still able to see him or has he vanished completely?

My first cat Sooty vanished for over a month one time before suddenly reappearing looking pleased with himself. I reckon he was fertalising half the cats in the city! So, there is still hope for him.
