Russell Smith

I was born at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. I find inspiration in the lives of so many people from Joan of Arc to Oscar Wilde. While my primary avocation is photography, I also enjoy philosophy, theology and most of all, history. My beloved wife, Robin Anne Smith, who passed away in 2013 is also an inspiration to me. My beloved partner, Dana is also a great support and inspiration to me. I'd be remiss if I did not mention my cats: Maxwell, and Nigel.

      • You don’t see them around but there must be. In Tauranga…the closet city there are. There is one guy in a wheelchair. he is a little creepy actually. Once the daughter and I were sitting in the car outside Subway (the son was getting sustenance) and he was hanging about when he stuck his hand in his pants and began to fiddle with himself. Freaked the daughter out (she was still at school) no end. Freaked me out a little too actually. There are a couple of locals that you see there…one guy in particular always pulls at my heartstrings…he has a doggie…and is so caring with it.

  1. Hollywood is jam-packed with homeless sadly. The ones with pets I find upsetting. Old people and young’uns disturb me because I don’t think they know or can take proper care of a pet, especially in such an unsettled environment. It pains me.

Very sad. I think his feet (bare, dirty, swollen) tell the story for me. The open book, the way he’s lying just inside the shade… This is a powerful image.
