This is without a doubt the smallest butterfly that I’ve ever photographed. It was rather disheartening because in a huge field of clover, this was the only insect (besides a solitary wasp) that I could see.
As this photo illustrates, this butterfly’s wingspan was hardly wider than a blade of grass. Interestingly, her wings were one color on the outside and another on the inside!This photo illustrates even better the two-colored nature of its wings.And now we have three!
While I’m fairly sure this butterfly is a member of the Pieridae family, I’m afraid to go any further with identification. It was most insistent about staying in the grassy area of the field. It’s quite a bit smaller than the common cabbage butterfly. If anybody out there knows for certain what it is, please feel free to enlighten the rest of us!
