Queen Pirouette held a document in her hand. It was a formal declaration from Cardinal/Bishop Dogmaton threatening both her and King GarGar with excommunication. The age old conflict between Church and State was rearing its ugly head. The King and Queen wanted to try priest who commit felonies in a secular court; however, Cardinal Dogmaton refused to hand over these criminal priests to the authorities. He reserved the right to try them in an ecclesiastical court (which was notoriously lenient).
“How dare he!” Exclaimed Queen Pirouette. “I’m going to make this letter public. Whenever Cardinal Dogmaton goes into public, the people will pelt him with stones!”
