Beautiful Photographs

WrestlersSimplicity can be defined as the quality or condition of being easy to understand or do. To me this is a mythical state. Even a simple hydrogen atom is a complex system of subatomic particles. These particles in turn consist of even smaller units. I believe that one day researchers of quantum mechanics will discover that these smallest of particles are a conglomeration of yet smaller units ad infinitum. The amount of energy that holds the subatomic particles together is mind-boggling, as evidenced by the result of splitting a hydrogen atom.

The above sculpture was photographed at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 1999. I chose to submit this image in today’s Ragtag Daily Prompt for a number of reasons. The simplicity of form of the two figures engaged in a wrestling match is stunning. They are identical to each other in form and visage. They wear no clothing. The color of this image is fairly monochrome. Even the hold in which they are locked is one of the most simple in the sport of wrestling.

When I post photographs on this blog, I try to keep any commentary to a minimum. There is truth in the adage, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” I diverged from this principle because I felt obliged to share my philosophical musing on today’s prompt. Why I felt this way, I’m sure I don’t really know.

Happy blogging! Russell

UPDATE. Isn’t serendipity wonderful? I was just looking at Jez Braithwaite’s website and noticed that his recent post was an entry to mindovermemory‘s Saturday Sculpture Challenge- Week Six. I don’t usually like to double-dip, but in this case I am making an exception and submitting this to that challenge.
