Ragtag Daily Prompt: Rigamarole

“I suppose,” said Pirouette hesitantly. GarGar who had been elucidating the Princess on some stark realities about court life, took off his hat and slapped his thigh with it. Exasperated, he blurted out, “Can you doubt it? Can you doubt me?” Of course they were rhetorical questions and Pirouette smiled indulgently.

“Well, it’s really a lot to take in,” she said. “Do you really mean to tell me that it is Monsieur le Premier ministre who is responsible for everything that goes on at court? Everything?” She repeated for emphasis.

“Yes! Yes, yes, yes! It’s the prime minister, I tell you!” Answered Monsieur le comte des Deux Chats.

“And I always thought that he was just saying and doing what the King told him to say and do. So you’re telling me it’s the other way around?”

“Indeed,” said GarGar. “He’s responsible for all of the rigamorole that goes on around here.”

Pirouette deployed her fan and began fanning herself furiously. “It’s awfully hot in here,” she said. “Don’t you think?”

“Not as hot as it’s going to get,” said GarGar drily.
