In order to celebrate the safe return of GarGar, le comte des Deux Chats from the campaign against the Southern rebels, Pirouette threw a grand ball. The old King’s full orchestra was in attendance. Pirouette and her ladies stood at one end of the ballroom, while the men all stood at the opposite end, counting the beats and waiting for the right moment to ask the women for a dance. Annoyed that no one was dancing, the old King took matters into his own hand, and walked up to his old mistress, still wearing the same dress she’d worn for the last few days. Taking her by the hand, he led her onto the dance floor and proceeded to squire her about the floor. Hardly missing a beat, Tata Sous-sus grabbed the prime minister by the hand and dragged him out onto the floor as well. Soon other courtiers began to join in.
In no time at all, the dance floor was crowed. The orchestra, warming in up to festive mood, began to increase the tempo from stately minuet to an andante. The couples began to swirl in time to the music. Pirouette felt transported. In the arms of GarGar, she felt a happiness that perhaps she’d never experienced before in her life. She wished that it was her wedding day that she was celebrating.
