Cee’s FOTD Challenge: August 9, 2021

Debbie Smyth hosts the One Word Sunday Challenge on her website, Travel With Intent. This is my humble contribution.
As the old King lay in his extremities, a last ditch effort to save his life was employed. Holy relics were placed on various parts of his body. A true splinter of the Cross was considered the most efficacious. Whether or not these measures were of any value was a moot point. As nothing else seemed to help, prayer was the last resort.
Of all the prayers sent up to heaven, none were more fervent than Princess Pirouette’s. Unable to grasp the idea that she would become Queen, all she wanted was for the King to recover and assume his duties as sovereign. Already, petitions from all corners of the Kingdom were arriving at her door, as if she had the power to effect any assistance to those beyond her inner circle of friends and servants.
