Sunday Stills: Favorite Places

Grand Canyon_1999_5aAny discussion of favorite places for me must begin with the Grand Canyon. While I could pepper this post with lots of amazing facts and figures about the Canyon, just look at it. There are no words to do it justice.Haleakala 1Then there is Haleakala on the island of Maui. You are forgiven if you thought these pictures (above and below) were from a NASA mission on another planet.Haleakala 2Closer to home, we have the glorious Chesapeake Bay. I’m afraid my skills as a photographer can’t do it justice, but I submit below in a feeble attempt to participate in the Sunday Stills challenge: Favorite Places. The estuary of the Chesapeake is vast and encompasses six states. Pillar to pillar cropy

Weems Creek (below) is one of those spots that I visit and revisit. It’s a place where I can recharge spiritually. It’s home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.WWE 7

I was born at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. I find inspiration in the lives of so many people from Joan of Arc to Oscar Wilde. While my primary avocation is photography, I also enjoy philosophy, theology and most of all, history. My beloved wife, Robin Anne Smith, who passed away in 2013 is an inspiration to me. My beloved partner, Dana is also a great support and inspiration to me. I'd be remiss if I did not mention my cats: Maxwell, Nigel, Pirouette and GarGar.

  1. Beautiful photos! I’ve been to the Grand Canyon and took tons of photos so I understand what you mean. Sadly, not been to any of the other lovely places.

  2. Beautiful captures of your favorite places, Russell, glad you could join us this week at Sunday Stills! I finally got to the GC last January when it was covered in snow–tons of photos, too. Hope to see it in the shoulder seasons and enjoy more of the area.
