All voices were stilled as the orchestra played melodic strains. All the lights, save the footlights, were dimmed in the royal theater, where King GarGar and Queen Pirouette watched as their youngest daughter, la princesse LaLa hurled herself across the stage on dainty feet. Scattered applause rippled through the audience as she bowed low and then leapt high into the air.
Queen Pirouette tried to focus on the artistry behind her daughter’s movements, but it was difficult not to be distracted by her skimpy costume with frilly sleeve and ruffles at the ankles. Ribbons billowed from her hair. She looked every bit like a nymph or a nefelibata.
Queen Pirouette leaned over to her husband and whispered, “What do you think?”
“I’m quite proud of our little LaLa,” answered GarGar, “But does her costume have to be so revealing?”
