Princess Pirouette sat by the window brooding. Normally she would have been outside amongst the flowers in the gardens, drinking in their colors, delighting in their fragrance, gasping with joy at every butterfly that might flit by. Her beautiful face, flushed with youth, was now the visage of a hard, flinty woman.
Pirouette was not the only person brooding in the palace. The prime minister sat at his desk with a blank stare. Ever since he’d heard of GarGar’s release from prison, he’d been in a state of shock. In the past, any attempt to impede the progress of his plans, or to downsize his authority, was dealt with swiftly and harshly, but now he felt paralyzed. What am I to do? He thought to himself. How will I avenge myself on GarGar, le comte des Deux Chats?
