Ragtag Daily Prompt: Martyr

While King GarGar was off campaigning, Queen Pirouette was left with the drudgery of running the state. Today she was hearing audiences in the Throne Room. All was silence, save for a solitary cough that served to punctuate the stillness in the room as Pirouette read the document in her hand. It was a report from the Abbott of the monastery where she liked to go on retreat from time to time. The Queen was investing personal funds in a renovation project that was running over budget and behind schedule.

The Abbott stood before her now, hiding his hands in the sleeves of his robes, he coughed again. “Didn’t your mother teach you to cover your mouth when you cough?” Chided the Queen.

“Yes, ma’am.” He whispered. “Forgive me, Your Majesty, if I might just highlight a few points in the report…” He trailed off.

“Quiet, old man! And don’t try to play the martyr with me!” Responded the Queen angrily.
