This is TR. He is 97 years of age, a veteran of World War II. TR served in the Navy. Because he was a bit under weight, he was initially told by a Navy recruiter that he probably wasn’t fit for active duty. A quick thinker, TR told the recruiter that there was an officer at the Army’s recruitment office who wanted him to sign up with their outfit. Without further ado, TR was accepted into the Navy where he served with distinction. Proud of his service, TR is always quick to add that he is very grateful that during his time in the Navy, he was never required to take another life. “I don’t know if I could live with that,” he says.
