Whenever a member of the royal family died, the Archbishop would light a candle. King GarGar wept openly, while Queen Pirouette maintained a stoical blank expression on her face. After lighting the candle, the Archbishop proceeded to say a Mass for the peaceful repose of the late Prince GarGar, heir to the throne and only son of the King and Queen.
Nothing can prepare one for this kind of grief, thought Pirouette. In her sorrow, she could not even summon a prayer to her lips. At this point, she was prepared to allow the Archbishop to pray on her behalf.
